Our dive centre and hotel on the island

We work with Maathundi Hotel — a cosy 18-room boutique hotel on the northern side of Fuvahmulah, next to the famous Thoondu Beach, with a rooftop restaurant and pool — and Shark Expedition Fuvahmulah, a PADI 5-Star Dive Centre. The fleet includes 2 dive dhonis and 1 speedboat, with all equipment 100% insured. Three dives daily, including a guaranteed Tiger Shark dive at "Tiger Zoo". No night dives, for safety reasons.

When to go

Tiger sharks are seen in Fuvahmulah almost every day, year-round — a resident population, especially at Tiger Point. Other sightings are more seasonal:

• Hammerhead sharks — most likely April–June, on early-morning blue water dives
• Thresher sharks — April–July, best in May–June
• Oceanic mantas — April–June and November–December, near cleaning stations
• Whale sharks — rare, May–October, during tuna migrations
• Mola mola (ocean sunfish) — very rare, August–December, in deep water

Tiger shark freediving

A separate programme for those who want to meet tiger sharks without the noise of scuba gear — closer to the sharks and, by all accounts, more comfortable for them too. Led by marine biologist Andriana "Andy" Fragola. Two sessions a day, available as a standalone experience or an add-on to a dive package. Equipment rental and courses available for all levels.
